Well, this isn't my main blog so, as you can see, I don't ever post here. Of course, I hardly ever post at my main blog either. Just get so busy that I don't take the time to post anything and when I do it's usually something totally random. Think the last time I posted there in mid-October. Well, my "loving dork" daughter has been bugging me a little saying I need to post here so I decided to post just for her!
Let's see, it's Black Friday today. For those that are now saying, what? Friday, that is what the friday after Thanksgiving is called because all the big boom of Christmas shopping that day moves most companies financial situation from red to BLACK, hence the name "Black Friday". Most folks consider today to be the biggest shopping day of the year but it's not. You can read more about it ::HERE:: . I have never really got into the whole getting up at 3am and going to stand in line to shop. Mainly because of our budget and that I like to sleep. This year I almost got up and went as I have most of our Christmas money in savings. Guess I'm getting better at planning since this is the second year I've been able to actually shop before the last week before Christmas. But, atlas, sleeping in won out and I didn't get up and go.
My dear hubby was originally going to be off today and have a much deserved 4-day weekend but they need a couple of volunteers to work a few hours today. Of course, he volunteered as he didn't get to work but about a couple of hours Monday due to rain. So now I'm here with just 2 of my kiddies as my youngest spent the night at my sisters last night.
Well, yesterday was great! We went to my daddy's for Thanksgiving "Dinner". He cooked Turkey, Ham, Baked Beans and Yams. My sister and I cooked the rest. I cooked homemade Mac & Cheese, Green Beans, Creamed Corn, Rolls, homemade Cheesecake, Banana Pudding and Bisquick Buttermilk Pie. I, also, got the sodas, tea and cranberry sauce. My sissie made Cornbread Dressing, Potato Salad, Mashed Potatoes, Black-Eyed Peas, Chocolate-covered Cherries Cake, and Marble Cake with Chocolate Frosting. EVERYONE went on and on about how great the Mac & Cheese and Cornbread Dressing was!! And of course, all the delicious and fattening desserts! As you can see we made a FEAST and had plenty to take home. Funny that we made so much when there was only 12 of us.
After we thoroughly stuffed ourselves with our overly full plates of food and dessert and the several trips back to the table to nibble, we relaxed and visited with my daddy and my sister and her bunch. It was a very nice day indeed!! We were there about 4 hrs then we got back on the road to head to my mom's for a visit.
My mom had to work so she didn't cook a big feast. She actually quit doing the whole big Thanksgiving dinner several years ago because my mom's side of the family has a big family reunion a week after Thanksgiving and she has to work anyway. She decided it was too much to cook that much and work on the same day and then do it again a week later.
My sister, her kiddies and all my family visited with my mom and stepdad for a couple of hours. It was a great visit even without another big feast as we couldn't have eaten anyway. LOL My sister and I decided that it be good to meet at her house as she just lives 3 miles from me and put all our food out and eat supper together. We both had gotten some meat to take home from Daddy's. It was still great the second time around. We loaded up our leftover food and then waddled to the car to head home.
Today we've all been just hanging out at the house and enjoy our leftovers except for my hubby who had to work for a few hours. Tomorrow we will be going to another Thanksgiving dinner with my birth mom(I'm adopted) and my half-brothers. So we get to stuff ourselves again-YUMMY! No wonder folks gain weight this time of year. I mean it's winter and I don't know about anyone else but we are less active when it's cold and/or wet outside. Then we have all this feasting with very fattening, rich food. Is it no wonder that most everyone would be thinking of dieting come new year's??
Ok, enough of my random ramblings!! Have a great weekend and maybe I'll update again in a few months!
Blessings! TeaJay |
